Ever since I got back from Memphis on Sunday night, I have been going non-stop, barely having time to eat and sleep let alone cross things off my ever-growing to-do list. On top of my busy schedule, I spent the the last 24 hours dealing with a major leak in my kitchen ceiling, which started as a one-bucket problem that quickly escalated into a five-bucket problem. I think this was the one time in my life that I was praying for the snow to just stop falling. More snow accumulating on the roof of my apartment building meant more snow that was going to melt... right into my kitchen.

Meet Taste As You Go's Adopted Bloggers

Last spring, I had the distinct honor of participating in Round Three of Adopt A Blogger, an amazing program organized by Kristen (of Dine and Dish) that pairs "newbie" bloggers with experienced bloggers for a three-month mentoring period. It's hard to believe that I was the newbie, emailing all of my questions to my mentor, Sara Rosso (of Ms. Aventures in Italy). Well, Adopt A Blogger is back for Round Four and, this time, I've taken two bloggers who are relatively new to the food blogging scene under my wing.

How I Stopped Drinking Soda
I'm not going to lie. There have been periods in my life -- some long, some short -- when I have excessively consumed more than my fair share of soda. But I'd never feel comfortable with slapping an "addict" sticker onto my forehead. Growing up, we hardly ever had soda in the house, as it was reserved as a treat for large gatherings of family or friends. When my mother did allow us to drink soda, she made sure it was caffeine-free as much as possible.

Take a Break from Meat at Josie's East
Josie's East
565 Third Avenue
New York, NY 10016 | Map
Every now and then, it's refreshing to eat a meal that doesn't include an ounce of meat. Not too long ago, I made plans with my friend Lorianne to take a break from work and meet up for lunch. She really wanted me to choose a restaurant since I'm the "foodie" (or "food enthusiast"), but I allowed her to make the suggestions because of her restricted diet as a vegetarian. Eventually, we agreed to meet at Josie's East on Third Avenue. Before I left the office to head to Murray Hill, I took a quick peek at the lunch menu and was pleasantly surprised to find a decent number of dishes featuring meat or poultry. But, for the most part, the dishes were vegetarian friendly or could be made that way upon request.

Baby Spinach Salad with Warm Olive Oil, Walnuts, and Comice Pears
Despite my best efforts to stay current and to read my magazines as they come in, more often than not I have a stack of back issues sitting on my nightstand, longing for attention. In fact, I just read the December issue of Real Simple on the subway to-and-from work today. Although the articles were completely irrelevant for this time of year, I just couldn't put the magazine in the recycling pile without flipping through it first.

Ginger and Garlic Broccoli with Brown Rice
Over the past several months, I've been very disciplined about how I spend my money. A night off from cooking in favor of takeout was rare. And even though I'm settling into my new job and have a couple of paychecks in the bank, I still haven't eased up on my self-imposed spending restrictions. Instead, I've been trying to recreate my favorite takeout dishes at home as a way of saving money in the long run.
