I had a dream about the beach last night. Stephen and I were walking along the water's edge watching Caroline running ahead of us. She'd run to the water and giggle as it washed over her toes. Somehow, the rest of the beach was empty except for the occasional curious seagull. It was such a peaceful scene.

Then I heard someone shouting, "It's the twins!" When I turned around to see who was yelling, I noticed a group of doctors and nurses speeding toward us... And I woke up.

I wasn't enjoying a quiet moment with my family. And I wasn't at the beach. I was right back in my hospital bed, and the sounds of shouting were actually real. A patient down the hall had gone into active labor with twins. Needless to say, it was difficult to go back to sleep after that.

After 30 minutes, I gave up on sleep and turned my light on. I raised the bed so I could sit up then put my headphones in so I could listen to music while I read my book. And speaking of reading... Here are some of the things that have captured my attention -- in some form or another -- since last weekend.

  1. This has been helping me get my Starbucks fix while I'm on the inside. Not bad!
  2. Even though she's only two, Caroline loves practicing writing her name (or having me write her name). I can't wait until she's old enough to use this.
  3. To prevent myself from defaulting to watching television all day, I downloaded this app so I could start listening to podcasts. Which podcasts should I be listening to?
  4. Do you love the arts? Are you interested in the creative process? Have ten minutes? Then watch this.
  5. Okay, I may have to rethink my strategy on screen time come July.
  6. What's your parenting style? Anything like this?
  7. Thanks to the generosity of friends and family, my hospital room is well-stocked with sweet treats like these. With that said, however, I wouldn't cry if these showed up.
