Grilled Avocado and Tomato Roll-Ups

Seeing as I will be embarking tomorrow on a weekend adventure to Pittsburgh to see a friend from college get married, I wanted to prepare a dinner that would use up some of my produce. I also wanted something a little lighter as I pretty much survived on the leftover Farfalle with Italian Sausage and Broccoli Rabe for the past couple of days.

Farfalle with Italian Sausage and Broccoli Rabe

As I was placing my Fresh Direct order last night, I wondered how I could use the two links of Italian sausage I had in the freezer. Then I remembered my last excursion to Foodcellar and the disappointment I felt when I discovered they were out of broccoli rabe. Suddenly, I it all became clear -- I knew exactly what I wanted to make! With a click of the mouse, I added a bunch of broccoli rabe to my order.

Fudgy Cocoa Brownies

I realize that I am probably committing a major food blog faux pas by writing a post containing a recipe and not including a pictorial explanation of either the process or the finished product. Considering I've placed myself on a rather strict budget until I climb out of the financial hole known as "moving to New York," a new digital camera will have to be a purchase I must delay. (My very old refurbished HP digital camera did not survive the move.) So, to appease those readers who absolutely must have visual stimulation in a blog post, I'm including pictures of ingredients. ;-)

Foodcellar & Co.: Three Strikes and You're Out?

Foodcellar & Co. Market
4-85 47th Road
Long Island City, NY

Back on August 13th, the highly anticipated Foodcellar & Co. opened in Long Island City, giving local residents an alternative to ordering groceries for delivery from Fresh Direct and to shopping in the C-Town Supermarket on 21st Street. While I love the idea of ordering groceries for delivery because the idea of schlepping heavy bags full of food back from the store is utterly unappealing, you are beholden to Fresh Direct's delivery schedule and aren't given too many choices when it comes to certain products.

It seems odd to me that I am posting a review of a German restaurant while I'm consuming Thai leftovers, but I knew I'd have to push back the writing of this review if I didn't write it tonight. Then again, being so readily accessible to so many ethnic restaurants is one of the reasons why I love living in New York.

Personalized Google Map

Prior to the creation of this blog, I documented my culinary experiments in the kitchen, as well as my adventures at restaurants around the New York, in a general-purpose personal blog under tight security. Of late, I realized that more and more of my blog entries were concentrated around the subject of food, so it only made sense to create a more accessible blog that would focus on just that -- food.

Welcome!

If you've stumbled upon this blog in hopes of finding content relating to food, I'd like to 1) welcome you and 2) apologize for not having anything more substantial to share just yet. I, literally, created this blog 20 minutes ago, so there are some things to work out in terms of layout and design before I can begin sharing my recipes and restaurants reviews.

Thanks for stopping by and check back soon!
