Be sure to check out this amazing round-up of 50 Thanksgiving dessert recipes on Taste As You Go! This post was updated with new links and photos in November 2021. Ahhhh...  November.  I have been waiting for you (and all that you bring) for months . Specifically, I have been counting down to that glorious day spent with family and loved ones around a long table packed to the gills with platters and bowls of comfort food and happy memories. Of course, I'm talking about Thanksgiving. This year, we're spending the holiday with my family in Connecticut and I. Cannot. Wait. You better believe I'm going to use my pregnancy as an excuse to eat three full plates of food plus  five slices of whatever we've got going on at the dessert end of the meal! (Because I'm eating for two, right??) In

Aprons: Nostalgia, TAYGA, and a Giveaway!

As the holiday season approaches and 2008 begins to wind down, I'm finding myself getting lost in thoughts of holidays past and memories of family members who are no longer here to gather around the Thanksgiving dinner table or the Christmas tree. I am especially thinking of my mother, who passed away nearly six years ago, and of my Aunt Chris, my mother's sister, who passed away when I was still in elementary school. This time of year was always their favorite. While it meant driving long distances for family get-togethers, it also meant preparing large meals, baking pies, and, most definitely, baking batch after batch of Christmas cookies.

Aunt Chris saw the foodie in me way before I did. Not only did she share her special recipes with me, but she also made sure I dressed the part. For Christmas one year, she made me the most beautiful apron. She had embroidered an elegant white swan on a navy blue bib, while the skirt was white with tiny flowers. I absolutely loved it and wore it every time I helped my mother in the kitchen. Although my aunt and her family lived in Maine, she was always with us in our kitchen in Connecticut whenever I tied on that apron.

In the spirit of family and fond memories, I am thrilled to tell you about a company called TAYGA, created by Debbie Olson, and their new online designer apron boutique! Peg Mischler, one of the co-owners, contacted me a couple of weeks ago and directed me to their website. As soon as I saw the pictures of their aprons, I was immediately struck by how chic and flattering the aprons were. In a recent press release, Peg revealed why TAYGA aprons are so unique: "Selecting exceptional fabrics, creating feminine designs and the quality of workmanship [are] important to us. All our aprons are made in the USA, designed by women for women, when you tie one of our aprons on, it empowers you to make a difference."

What I love is that TAYGA aprons are designed with different body types in mind. All of their aprons have adjustable waist and neck straps, so it's easy to find a design and a fit that will match your personal style and taste! And, all of their aprons are reversible, so you get two aprons in one!

As I mentioned above, the holiday season is approaching, and I think a TAYGA apron would make the perfect gift for your favorite foodie, whether that be yourself or someone else! If you thought I was excited about having the opportunity to tell you about this company and their fabulous aprons, that excitement pales in comparison to how excited I am to announce Taste As You Go's first official giveaway!

Two lucky readers will each win a $15 gift certificate good toward the purchase of a TAYGA apron!! To enter the giveaway, leave a comment on this entry no later than 11:59pm EST on Friday, November 14, 2008. The winners will be chosen at random and will be announced both here and via email on Monday, November 17. The winners will also be contacted by a member of the TAYGA team who will be able to offer personal attention and assistance in redeeming the gift certificates and in choosing the right apron for their body type.

I want to thank Debbie and Peg for donating the gift certificates, and I look forward to reading all of your comments. While you're waiting for the winners to be announced, pop on over to TAYGA's website and check out their other designs. Good luck!

Very va-va-voom! They could almost double as dresses except for the breezy back :) ...but very stylin'! Also, very pricey for an apron. I don't think I could justify spending that kind of money on an apron (even with the g.c.)

Enjoyed your family story and writing style (as always).

I agree! Although I do love my mom's retro orange and yellow flowery aprons, these are def. an upgrade and I agree with Foodalogue -- very stylish!!

Such a good idea to be Marilyn in the kitchen! I like to think of myself as a cross between Bette Davis in All About Eve and Julia Child! I like the style you add to the mix.

mmm, I understand how the feelings about loved ones either not being with us or of ones whom we lost... I just love the idea of adjustable necks and waists in aprons, that will make one structural and elegant even while cooking. Infact I fell in love with that idea of women creating for women and the adjustable stuff another thing I liked was the red apron, cute and makes one visible :) Wish you get more comments, more comments then your enthu increases while choosing one uhhh!!!

I like you have a lot of nostalgia for the past. Especially for my grandmother - whom I loved spending time in the kitchen with. Your post reminds me of this.
