Still need to plan your Thanksgiving menu? If you're looking for inspiration, then check out this fantastic round-up Classic Thanksgiving Side Dish Recipes on Taste As You Go! You know how some people get really excited about the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks? That's how excited I get about turning the calendar over to November. Because November means the coming of the holiday season and the celebration of Thanksgiving. As much as we look forward to spending the day in the company of loved ones, Stephen and I have decided to stay home this year so we can enjoy our first Thanksgiving as a family of three. Forelle Pear Tart

Forelle Pear

Last week, I hosted a much-needed Girls' Night at my apartment for three of my girlfriends. We're all on tighter budgets these days (who isn't?), so we thought a night in with some wine and some good conversation would serve as our required social activity for the week. And what's a Girls' Night without something deliciously sweet to snack on and soak up some of that wine?

When I placed my last Fresh Direct order, I added Forelle pears to my shopping cart, partly because I've never tried them before and partly because they were on special. I knew they'd make a fantastic dessert for my friends as soon as we scheduled our Girls' Night. I turned them into a tart and it was fabulous! Mary Catherine and Candice arrived just as I was taking the tart out of the oven, and Mary Catherine couldn't wait until I cut into it so she could try a bite. Rave reviews all around! I think the first thing out of Candice and Lauren's mouths after tasting the tart was "Mmmmmm!"

Despite its deliciousness, I managed to save a quarter of the tart for my boyfriend to eat when he came to visit last weekend. It was hard, but I think he appreciated the gesture. The recipe is ridiculously easy, and you can substitute other types of pears for the Forelles if you want. Apples would work, too!
