There is something supremely satisfying about coming together as a group, whether it be with family or friends or people you've just met, to share a meal. And that satisfaction increases tenfold if you've worked together to transform individual ingredients into finished dishes, presented on platters made for passing with two hands.

Are You Going to the New York City Wine & Food Festival?

New York City Wine & Food Festival

Forgive me.

I realize that I'm announcing the winner of the tickets to San Pellegrino's Meatball Madness event, presented by Buitoni and hosted by Giada De Laurentiis, at the New York City Food & Wine Festival a little late, but I was out for most of the day, enjoying the homecoming football game at Lehigh University and all that such an occasion entails (tailgates, marching with the alumni band, watching the game, and post-game tailgates).

Let's not waste any more time and cut right to the chase!

It's finally time to reveal my big news! I posted a recipe for Poached Pears in Honey, Ginger and Cinnamon Syrup by Giada De Laurentiis a couple of days ago, along with a hint as to what my next big opportunity as a food blogger is. I loved reading your responses (and your emails and text messages and comments on Facebook!). Of course, what fun would this be if I gave you the biggest hint right off the bat?

For those of you who guess that it had something to do with Food Network and/or Giada, congratulations! You were the closest. But... I did not land a writing gig with the network or its beautiful star.

Let me give you another hint.

Those Taste As You Go readers who follow me on Twitter and/or are fans on Facebook have been seeing me make cryptic references to my next big opportunity as a food blogger over the past couple of weeks. While it's not quite time to announce the news just yet, I thought it would be fun to offer you guys a hint.

A Taste of Los Cabos: Downtown San Jose del Cabo

Let me begin by telling you that I absolutely loved waking up in Los Cabos. Although my alarm was set so I would have ample time to shower and dress for my second day in Mexico, I didn't jump out of bed feeling anxious about the things I had to do. I woke up refreshed and ready to begin exploring. Even after the epic dinner we had the night before!

The rain that fell yesterday morning was a gentle rain. Sporadic and light, it inspired me to bake a quick bread full of cinnamon, carrots, and cashews (recipe to follow). The rain that fell for a good part of the evening was a heavy rain. Steady and fat, it not only inspired me to cook a dish that I haven't had in years, but it also inspired me to sit down and work out the final kinks in the series of blog posts detailing the press trip to Los Cabos I went on at the end of June. Ironic, since we didn't see a spot of rain the entire time we were in Mexico.
