So often, you hear people talk about how expensive everything in New York is -- rent, groceries, restaurant prices. It's been nearly three years since I moved back to the city after my brief stint in Connecticut, and I'm only just seeing signs of full recovery in my bank account! Sometimes the day-to-day expenses can be overwhelming and the idea of spending any money on actually enjoying the city borders on ludicrous. However, if you do your research, you'll find that New York offers an astounding number of activities for little or no money at all!

Guest Post: The Sexiest Pasta on Earth
Last day in Knoxville. My team and I are exhausted, but I think the trip has been successful so far. We'll see how things stand after we make it through the second day of the training session!
Since I'm still busy and won't be back in New York until late tonight, I've lined up one more guest blogger. Meet Sarah from Fritos and Foie Gras! (Isn't the name of her blog fabulous?) Sarah and I met at a press dinner not that long ago, and when I put the call out for guest bloggers on Twitter, she immediately responded. When you're finished reading her guest post here, make sure you hop on over to Sarah's blog to see what else she has to say!
Thanks so much for writing, Sarah!

Guest Post: Lemon, Coconut and Ginger Energy Bars
Another day in Knoxville for me means another guest post for you!
Today's post was written by my real-life friend Mary. Not only does Mary write the blog Oven Proof, but she also happens to be my real-life friend and occasional running buddy. Mary encouraged me to sign up for my first half marathon in 2009 and was ecstatic when I told her about my decision to run my first full marathon last year. So much so that she jumped onto the course when I had less than a mile to go to see how I was holding up. If she has her way, I'll be running at least one marathon per year until my knees give out.
Thanks so much for writing, Mary!

Guest Post: Eggs on Toast with Kale and Tomato Sauce
Photo: Robyn Youkilis
I'm heading to Knoxville for a few days for work, and while I'm gone, I've lined up some fabulous guest bloggers to keep you all entertained. Today, Robyn Youkilis shares her recipe for Eggs on Toast with Kale and Tomato Sauce and answers the following question: What does a health coach eat on an "off night"?
Thanks so much for writing, Robyn!

Simple Olive Oil Drop Biscuits
A few weeks ago, as New York began to dig itself out from the snowstorm that left 19 inches of snow in its wake, my busy schedule came to a grinding halt. It wasn't the weather that slowed me down, though. It was a high fever that peaked at 103.2°F. (Clearly a sign that I was over-doing it.) I was so delirious (and stubborn) that I wouldn't allow myself to rest until I had walked the few blocks to the market to procure ginger ale. When I'm sick, I just have to have it.

Food Memories of Orlando

Image: AllPosters.com
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to stay away. I had every intention of writing on a more regular basis. I know I popped in on Valentine's Day, but I didn't say much. Not only did I not have the words, but I also lacked the energy to channel my creative side.
Do you forgive me?

Sweets from My Sweet
After dating for over a decade, Stephen finally gave me a heart-shaped box of chocolates. Not to be cliché. And not for Valentine's Day.* To thank me for being me.

Doin' the Brunch Thing at Dos Caminos
When I think of Midtown Manhattan, I immediately associate the neighborhood with work. Since my office is in Midtown, I joint the countless number of commuters who emerge out of the subway tunnels in the morning and who are swallowed by them in the evening. I equate Midtown with a readiness to dodge the tourists who inevitably stop in the middle of the sidewalk to take pictures of Bryant Park or the Chrysler Building or Rockefeller Center or a random New York City fire hydrant. (This is especially true during the holiday season.)
For me, Midtown never meant "weekend brunch".... or, at least, it didn't until recently.

Notice Anything Different?

Over the past few months, I've been slowly rolling out changes to my blog, beginning back in November with a new logo, a new design, and a new layout. If you've been keeping up via RSS reader, you may not have noticed these changes, so it's time to give you all a tour of the new (and improved) Taste As You Go!
Are you ready?

Say "I Love You" with a Pinkberry Swirly Gram

You've done flowers. You've done the heart-shaped box of chocolates. You've signed your name to the card with the saccharine message printed on the inside.
You need to find a new way to say "I love you" to that certain special someone.

Embarrassingly Easy Garlic Fried Rice
When I don't feel like creating a huge mess in the kitchen for the sake of feeding myself, or when I'm too busy to stop what I'm doing to prepare something that remotely resembles a balanced meal, I often fall back on the same combination of ingredients -- white (or brown) rice, corn, and butter -- to provide the nourishment I need. Not because the combination is particularly pleasant, but because I always seem to have them on hand.
However, sometimes, an old stand-by just doesn't cut it.
