Happy First Day of Summer, everyone!
While our family is still on vacation, it's a rainy day where we are and the adults have instituted a quiet day. We had a packed day of seaside fun yesterday, so a quiet day at the house is exactly what we need to recharge.
Especially since we're wrapping up our time here before moving on to the next stop on our trip!
Because we're stuck inside waiting out the weather, I thought I'd share our 2023 Summer Bucket List. Truth be told... I wasn't sure it made sense to create a bucket list this year.
(Our summer is already pretty busy with our pending move.)
But the kids love helping create our Summer Bucket List (see
here and
here)... and I didn't want to put the kibosh on this fun tradition because we have a lot of life to take care of.
Curious to see what made our Summer Bucket List this year? Need some inspiration to help you create your own?

- EAT STEAMED CHEESEBURGERS
- HAVE AN ICE CREAM SUNDAE PARTY
In the past, we've made homemade ice cream (like this flavor) for our ice cream sundae parties. But now that we have a new favorite ice cream shop in town, I don't think anyone would mind if I bought a couple of pints of ice cream to make the party happen!
- PICK FRUIT at a pick-your-own farm or orchard
- TRY NEW HAVEN PIZZA
I've introduced the family to New Haven pizza from Pepe's and Modern, so Sally's is next on our list!
Do you have a favorite New Haven pizza joint?
- GET FALAFEL AT MAMOUN'S
We didn't get to Mamoun's last summer, so I really hope we can find time to go before September.
- VISIT A NEW FARMER'S MARKET
- VISIT AN AMUSEMENT PARK / WATER PARK
I think the kids are old enough to do an afternoon at an amusement park. The question is... do we do Lake Compounce or Quassy first?
- GO FISHING
- GO TO THE BEACH
- RIDE RIDES / PLAY GAMES AT THE BOARDWALK
- PLAY MINIATURE GOLF
- MAKE TIE-DYE T-SHIRTS
- PAINT ROCKS
Ever since our daughter made these rocks for her classmates for Valentine's Day, she's been wanting to paint more. I think this is the summer to do it! We found the flat rocks on Amazon.
- GO TO A BASEBALL GAME
- GO ON A HIKE
- VISIT THE ZOO
- VISIT A BOTANICAL GARDEN
- WANDER A MUSEUM
- GO TO THE MOVIES
- HAVE A SLEEPOVER in the living room
- HAVE A MOVIE NIGHT
- HAVE A WATER BALLOON TOSS
I can't remember a summer in my childhood without water balloons. As I've gotten older, though, I realize playing with water balloons isn't exactly an environmentally-friendly activity. But I heard about these silicone water balloons that are reusable and I can't wait to get the kids out in the yard with them!
- GO TO A LOCAL CARNIVAL OR FAIR
- VISIT GRANDMA AND GRANDPA
- VISIT POPPOP
- VISIT FRIENDS in the Lehigh Valley
- TAKE A DAY TRIP TO RHODE ISLAND
- MOVE INTO OUR NEW HOUSE
I hope you're able to have some family fun this summer... and that our Summer Bucket List of family-friendly activities inspires you to create a bucket list of your own so you can start your summer off right!
PS. It's highly unlikely we'll get to all the things on our Summer Bucket List this year. But it's nice to have a long list of choices when we're looking for something to do.
